Aquaculture

Bio-hydrox is suitable for aquaculture and commercial fish farming, offering many advantages and promising immediate cost savings. It was developed and patented in USA. It reacts with water molecules and releases reactive oxygen species increasing the level of dissolved oxygen, just like ozone does when it is bubbled into a pond. For this reason, it is commonly referred to as “liquid ozone”. It is very effective at nitrification of ammonia, removal of organic dissolved solids and optimization of the filtration process. For existing ozone generators or UV systems, it can be retrofitted and help them work more efficiently and lower your energy costs. It will remove the biofilm from the UV lamps.

Bio-hydrox Vs Ozone

If you are already familiar with Ozone it is very easy to understand why Biohydrox is superior to all oxidants. There are three defining differences between using Bio-hydrox Vs ozone.

First, the way it is produced and introduced in the water. Ozone is produced on site by a generator or UV light and incorporated into the water in a gas phase with low solubility, mixing in the form of a heterogeneous chemical reaction between a gas and a liquid. On the other hand, Bio-hydrox does not require upfront capital investment and it is manufactured at a licensed facility. It is incorporated into the water in a liquid phase where it releases a more soluble oxidizing agent and mixes in the form of a homogeneous and most effective chemical reaction. Bio-hydrox has 100% solubility and there is no gas leaving the water.

Second is the oxidizing agent. Ozone directly oxidizes pollutants with energized oxygen ions. In alkaline and/or catalyzed environments, the oxidation process of ozone gas creates other oxygen ions and radicals (reactive oxygen species, ROS) and indirectly oxidizes pollutants with various reactions and better results. It happens a little different for Bio-hydrox since it is not sensitive to pH and does not require external catalysts. It generates a cascade of ROS in a redox cycle perpetuated by the metal catalysts in solution. The catalyzed ROS result in a high yield production of hydroxyl radicals, the main oxidizing agent. Along with other oxygen radicals and ions like superoxide and nascent oxygen, Hydroxyl radicals oxidize all contaminants with a synergistic effect and an oxidation potential of 2.8 V to 2.9 V, higher than Hydroxyl radicals acting alone.

Third, the residual activity of Bio-hydrox can’t be surpassed. In addition to destroy bio-film and control re-contamination, Bio-hydrox is a compound of transition metals with weak oxygen bonds that donate and accept electrons as needed, and support a chain of redox reactions that keeps regenerating reactive oxygen species until the demand is exhausted by external pollutants and scavengers. In the absence of external contaminants to disrupt the ROS loop the water will stay protected.

Bio-hydrox Vs Chlorine

Chlorine has always come to the rescue to provide residual after ozone applications and is no competition for Bio-hydrox.

Chlorine does not destroy biofilm and the system is more susceptible to re-contamination.

Chlorine is a gas with low solubility. Even in the absence of scavenger chlorine will escape to the air, its natural gas state.

Lastly, some organisms survive even high concentrations of chlorine. There is no known microbe able to survive advanced oxidation.

Biohydrox is ecological and sustainable and does everything any other disinfectant and oxidant does. It enhances flocculation and the effect of all other chemicals in the overall process. It has higher reactivity (10 to 20 times more effective than chlorine) and a conservative shelf life of 6 months. This means 10 to 20 times less volume of storage and less deliveries.
