Why is Bio-hydrox a chlorine compound? By definition, any compound that can produce hypochlorite ions, OCl-, is an active chlorine compound. This needs further clarification. We are a passive chlorine compound. Bio-hydrox oxidative power is mainly supported by hydroxyl radicals. When the water system reaches a level of saturation, the extra energy of the redox reactions causes chlorite ions to form oxygen bonds of its own and generate chlorine residual as OCl, not a good germicidal and not a good oxidant, and also not the acidifying HOCl.
