Bio-hydrox is more reactive and more effective than ozone and chlorinated chemicals, more stable, with longer residual activity, does not alter the pH, increases the oxygen content and does not create any toxic byproducts. This list covers the chemical needs commonly encountered in recreational waters. Bio-hydrox can act as a standalone treatment. In the cases where the regulations require the use of chlorine you can reduce by 90% the original amount you had been using. Bio-hydrox works well in the presence of chlorinated products. In fact, it acts as a catalyst and makes chlorine work better.

Bio-hydrox is a wide spectrum biocide. E. Coli, Cryptosporidium, Giardia, Amoebas and Pseudomona Aeruginosa cannot build resistance against oxidative stress. There is not known microorganism that can survive advance oxidation. It is effective in an ample pH range of 4.5 to 9.

Because it is non-toxic, it can even be applied where there is aquatic life. In aquariums, reefs and marine parks treated with Bio-hydrox you can expect no smell and the best-looking water you have ever seen; it oxidizes ammonia and aids biofiltration, increases oxygen content and significantly improves the health of mammals and all aquatic life.

Bio-hydrox is often called liquid ozone although it greatly surpasses the reactivity of ozone gas. It is the highest ranked technology amongst the Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOP) applicable to water treatment. Chemically, Bio-hydrox can be explained as an integrated Fenton-type reaction with an electrochemical potential of 2.80 V to 2.90 V, higher than Hydroxyls acting alone with 2.80 V and much better than Ozone with 2.08 V. As a reference, the reactivity of Chlorine is 1.40 V.

Other advantage of Bio-hydrox is storage. It is very stable in normal storage conditions with a conservative shelf life of at least 6 months. It requires an almost negligible capital investment and will take much less space than chlorinated products since it could require 15 to 20 times less volume to achieve same results.

The main difference between using ozone gas as supposed to using Bio-hydrox is the way it is produced and introduced in the water. Ozone gas is produced on site by an ozone generator or UV light and incorporated into the water in a gas phase mixing in the form of a heterogeneous chemical reaction between a gas and a liquid. On the other hand, Bio-hydrox is manufactured at a licensed facility and incorporated into the water in a liquid phase where it releases a more soluble oxidizing agent and mixes in the form of a homogeneous and most effective chemical reaction between two fluids.

Health benefits of bathing in ozonated water and water with high oxygen content are well documented and supporting scientific information is readily available. All publications and studies that relate to ozone gas are perfectly suited for liquid ozone.

The concentration and quality control is measured with an ORP meter. The application can be done manually and with a simple metering pump.  However, an automatic liquid dosing system has many advantages that translate in better quality control, safety and savings since the digital data provides 24/7 access to be monitored online.

The World Health Organization recommends a minimum ORP of 650 mV to meet drinking water standards because at that level E. Coli is killed on contact. We like to keep a minimum ORP of 700 mV. It is difficult for chlorine to reach and sustain an ORP of 700 mV because it does not have as much residual activity as liquid ozone. Also, chlorine does not destroy biofilm and when colonies form they are shielded from the effects of disinfectants. Lastly, some organisms have built resistance against chlorine and will not be eliminated.

Bio-hydrox can break down urine, suntan lotion, moisturizers, soap, hair conditioners, etc. Shocking the water will not be needed and there will not be more down time.

In addition to eliminating the health hazards of bathing in chlorinated water Bio-hydrox can be as well more economic than all forms of chlorinated products and any other chemical in the water treatment industry. With a better performing oxidizer your filters will not work as hard. There will be less resistance which decreases the energy consumed by the pumps, and there will be less backwash cycles as well. You will attain noticeable savings in the cost of purchasing chemicals paired with more savings in operational expenses.
