My favorite customer from Louisiana owns 600 acres near Lake Charles and wanted to plant green rice on a 160-acre farm. However, in a 12-acre area, the aquatic vegetation was so heavy that it did not allow sunlight during the summer to dry the soil and he couldn’t pull the plow to prepare for Fall planting. Already 3 weeks behind schedule, instead he flooded to 2” of water, applied Bio-hydrox, worked the organic ground cover into the mud with a buffalo and planted the rice seeds with an airplane. What happened next was unexpected. This late rice grew denser, with a deeper green color and so fast than in less than 2 months it reached the size of the crops planted 3 weeks in advance. In mid-November, temperature dropped below freezing 2 nights which caused the rice crops in the region to fray, including my customer’s farm (left photo) and except for the 12-acre land (right) where Bio-hydrox had oxidized organic matter in the mud, controlled decay and mineralized rich nutrients from natural whole food source making them easier to be absorbed by the root systems, accelerated growth and developed a healthier and stronger plant, better suited to resist exposure to freezing conditions.
